Welcome to Year 4
This term, the class will be going swimming each Tuesday starting on 12th September, so please remember to provide your child with a swimming kit.
Homework is set each Friday and is to be handed in the following Wednesday. Spellings will be given out each Friday and tested the following Friday. Please could you encourage your children to learn their times tables and to read as regularly as possible.
Throughout this year, the whole class will participate in poetry classes, during which time an experienced drama teacher, Mrs L Piddock, will teach them how to recite a selection of poems. This will be in preparation for a public examination, accredited by London Academy of Music and Drama.
In addition to this, all the children will learn how to play the cornet. The lessons will be taught by a professional brass teacher, Mrs N Stevenson, from the Birmingham Music Services. At the end of the year, the class will go to Birmingham Symphony Hall to watch children from other Birmingham schools perform a variety of instruments, an event run by Ladywood Showcase.
During this first half term, we will be studying the Ancient Egyptians which will culminate in a class trip to Birmingham Museum on Friday 13th October. During this trip, the children will get the chance to handle Ancient Egyptian objects and learn how papyrus paper was made.
Later in the year, we will also be visiting Cadbury World as part of our topic on chocolate and the Ancient Mayan civilization.
