Hooves and Tails Project
In November, Year 5 were involved in a project with Secret City Arts. The project was based around The Roundhouse, Birmingham, which was built in 1874. It was a stable for working horses. Horses worked pulling canal boats in those days, because boats had no engines. The horses walked along the towpath pulling boats along the water with their heavy loads. Inspired by The Roundhouse and its horses, the children worked with artists to retell the story of Vasilisa (which is traditional Russian folktale). They drew their own arty lantern bags, wrote poems, riddles and song lyrics and recorded their work. During the project the children worked towards their Arts Discovery Award which they all passed with flying colours! We shared the finished project with the school during a special where they received their certificates.
