Events In School

Welcome to our Year of Peace

Last year’s Amazing African Adventure was such a success, filled with community engagement and  excitement. Please make time to see our wonderful displays in our entrance and around school. We are always looking for ways to improve our school so please keep coming to Mrs Atkar with your suggestions.

Learning for Peace is our theme for this year. In Collective Worship and class, we’ve been reflecting on what makes us feel peaceful and how spreading love and respect can support peace. We will  be marking the end of our year with a Festival of Peace in July. If you have any ideas or contributions then please come and share them with us.

Year of Peace Launch

Each year the World Peace Day is observed across the globe on 21st September.  Our school took part in this day by having  peace-related  activities throughout the day which lead to a Launch Celebration yesterday afternoon where each class shared what they had been doing.

Y1 – Peace Box Messages

Y2 – Signs of Peace in handprints

Y3 – Peace Banner

Y4 – Doves of Peace

Y5 – Peace Poems/ Peace messages

Y6 – Peace Biscuits, Peace Cranes, Dream Catchers

The children had wonderful messages of peace for the school which were a delight to listen to. Each child was given a bracelet band that says ‘St George’s C E Primary School - Learning For Peace’ to wear  throughout the day or take home with them as a special gift to launch our Year of Peace.

But the real gift was given by parent Lisa Welcome who very kindly made a HUGE World Peace Day cake pictured above for every child in the school to take home ‘a piece of the peace cake’.  This wonderful surprise for the children and was given with love, kindness and with a strong message of unity.

We continued the theme by looking at ’inner peace’ during Family Time. The children watched and listened to a video that told them to close their eyes and vividly picture their favourite place in the world. We are hoping that all the children had a positive start to the day.

Keep checking back on these pages for photos of events we run! There are always too many photos to put in the newsletters so this is the place to be.

Wishing you all well, love and peace.
