Welcome to Year 1!
The Year 1 team this year are: Mrs Doyle and Mrs Yates.
Hello and welcome to the Year 1 class page. Hope this gives you all the information you need and keeps you updated on what we are getting upto in Year 1. If however, you have any questions/queries/concerns then please come and speak to either myself or Joy. We are here to help and ensure that your child feels safe, valued and is fulfilling their full potential.
All the children in Year 1 are entitled to a school meal every day.
P.E. lessons will take place on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. Please make sure your child comes to school wearing their P.E. kit on these days.
Home Readers and Class Library Books
The children will be given a 'home reader'. This is a book that matches their developing phonic knowledge. Your child should be able to use their decoding strategies e.g. sounding out and blending to read this book out loud to an adult. This book should be returned once your child has read it at home. They will also have the opportunity to pick a reading for pleasure book from the class book corner as well as being able to chose a book from the school library once a week.
All children have a reading record that we ask parents/family members to sign every day. We strongly encourage that these reading records are brought into school everyday so that we can sign them off and that children can then be rewarded when they have completed a whole page.
Homework will be handed out on a Friday and will link with the learning that has taken place in class that week. We ask that it is returned by the following Wednesday.
Spellings will also be sent out on a Friday for the children to learn for a spelling test the following week. We will inform you of your child’s spelling score when we send out the new set of spellings.
