Our aims in Geography are for pupils:
To develop a positive attitude towards learning Geography by promoting a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
To gain geographical subject knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.
To understand geographical concepts such as, location, settlement, land use, population, economic activity, distribution of natural resources, biomes, climate zones, physical features and the water cycle.
To develop a wide range of geographical skills, including the analysis, collection and communication of data through fieldwork, and the use of maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
To develop skills to organise and communicate effectively their ideas and understanding in ways appropriate to their level of ability.
To develop a sense of national and global citizenship, and social and moral values that align with our school’s Christian ethos and the British Values by understanding our individual and collective responsibility towards the Earth.
To develop the use of geographical vocabulary appropriate to their level of ability and ensure they understand the terms being used.
