Welcome to Reception
with
Mrs. Clarke & Miss. Ellis
We are very excited to welcome all of your children to St George’s Church of England Primary School and into their new reception class. Reception is very important as it is the start of your child's primary school journey with us and we want your child to be as happy and settled as they can be. We truly believe when your child is happy only then will they be open and able to learn.
Your children are settling in wonderfully and are trying their best to listen and follow instructions. They are learning the routines of the day and are adapting to new challenges well. Some of the children are starting to get very tired in the afternoon however, it is vital that they still attend school every day and arrive on time. We are excited to watch your children grow in the year ahead and hope that you will join us in working together to help your child achieve their potential.
PE
PE lessons in the hall will begin after the October half term holiday. Children are required to wear PE kit to school on a Friday so they are ready for PE that day. PE kit consists of black joggers/shorts, a coloured t shirt matched to the house team they are in, a tracksuit top and trainers. If you are unsure of your child's house team, please speak to any of the reception team and we will be happy to assist you.
Reading Books
Children will take home a new library reading book every Friday to be shared at home. Please write in the reading journal when you have shared it with your child and send in reading journals and books everyday. Please note this book is a book to be shared together and is not a book matched to your child's rreading ability.
Big Cat Ebooks are online books that are matched to your child's reading ability. This will begin after the October half term. You will find your child's log in for Big Cat Ebooks on the inside cover of your child's reading journal. Big Cat Ebooks are set every Friday and allow your child to spend time prereading a text before it is read the following week.
Please support your child with reading their reading book as much as possible encouraging them to sound out the words and blend them to read. Talk to your child about what is happening in the pictures and what they think might happen next.

Please send your child to school with a clearly named bottle containing only water everyday. Water can be refilled at any point during the day.
